Software Development Full-Time Chicago, IL March 5, 2018

Description

Are you passionate about helping a team realize their greatest potential? Do you love getting to know the personalities and ambitions of each team member to help them thrive? Are you a highly skilled coach that enjoys developing software engineers and teams? CTC is seeking a Software Team Manager for the Emerging Businesses team. Our growing team is focused on implementing trading strategies primarily in Futures and Equities products. As a member of our team, you will develop and lead a team of skilled engineers. Your team will partner with Traders and Quants to help deliver end-to-end trading systems.

Responsibilities

  • You will ensure the strategic direction of the group is well understood and that each employee understands how their role and personal goals connect to it.
  • You regularly solicit feedback from others about the performance of the individuals and the team as a whole, and use that feedback to build a team that is stronger than any one individual.
  • You work hard to understand and apply each team member’s strengths to responsibilities where they can do their best work and make the most impact for the team.
  • You craft development plans that are tailored to the individual – set up to amplify their strengths and mitigate their weaknesses. These plans are a match between what the company needs and the career path the individual craves.
  • You continually advocate for, and implement changes that improve the productivity, efficiency, and general environment for the development team.
  • Reviewing the team's capacity and capabilities is a meaningful activity for you, and is how you drive employee development as well as recruiting.
  • You create an environment of psychological safety where all team members are able to voice their opinions, be heard, and influence the company.
  • You make technical contributions that enhance team productivity and effectiveness (build and test improvements, automation, etc).
  • At times you will be asked to run projects and efforts that the team is involved in.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience leading a software development team, and a passion for coaching and team development.
  • You are great at providing timely and effective feedback that help employees learn and grow.
  • You are familiar with structured interviewing techniques and can accurately assess the values and abilities of potential additions to our team.
  • Motivation is an important coaching practice for you. You understand the difference between intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation.
  • You know how to balance giving direction versus coaching an employee to find the path for themselves.
  • Ability to build trust and influence within the team, the company, and with external partners.
  • You have experience using contract labor and know how and when to employ it to augment the team.
  • Performance management is a topic you take very seriously and approach with urgency when there is a gap.
  • You understand basic project management concepts and can break work down into manageable achievements, and keep the team on track.
  • You have technical experience with one or more of the following languages: Java, C++, and Python.
  • You have experience with source control (preferably Git), continuous integration/delivery, automated testing, and software development best practices.
  • It would be helpful but not required if you had experience with distributed Linux trading system development.
  • B.S. in Computer Science or related engineering fields.
